I accidentally bagged a peak

Thursday: company outing.  Awesome day.  Volleyball, beer, cornhole.  But also dangerously close to New Hampshire.  Eddie suggested we leave a bit early and head up to the Whites, and who am I to say "no" to an objectively awesome idea?  And that is the story of why I started hiking Cannon Mountain at 3pm on a Thursday.

We parked at the Lafayette Campground parking lot, starting up the Lonesome Lake trail, but then switching to the Cannon summit trail pretty quickly.  The hike to the summit was only 2.6 miles, and since Cannon is a 4000 footer, that means it is a very steep 2.6 miles.  But that's no problem.  Luckily, we happened to have sneakers, and we scrounged enough water bottles to make the hike possible.  Also: airheads.

Only a few near-falls (my first hike in sneakers is probably going to end up being my last hike in sneakers), and we made it to the observation deck in 1.5 hours.  Great views from the top (you can google it, because I have no interest in attaching my phone to my computer to get the picture right now).  We heard a bit of thunder from farther off, so we made our hasty get-away.  Overall, we completed the hike in 2 hours and 45 minutes, with clouds starting to cover up the Franconia Notch peaks just as we got back to the car.

Company outing day in the morning + late afternoon hike in NH = Successful day.
